Amiga Forever 2009 Premium Full CD & 2 DVD version £39.99

The Amiga computer, launched by Commodore in 1985, combined superior multimedia technology with ease of use, inspiring millions of the most creative and enthusiastic computer users ever.

Amiga Forever is the award-winning and officially-licensed Amiga emulation, operating system and connectivity solution. This Premium Edition blends high-quality software and original content with the ultimate set of videos to chronicle and let you experience firsthand the history, culture, challenges and passion behind the Amiga.

New features in Amiga Forever 2009:

  • All included games and demoscene productions are now in RP2 format (uses less disk space and makes it very easy to add or remove files)
  • RP2 Manager to scan for and import/export content
  • Built-in RetroPlatform Library (to recognize and configure games, etc.) with live updates
  • Seamless, one-click integration of AmiKit and AmigaSYS add-ons lets you experience a broader variety of Amiga perspectives*
  • New system ROMs (e.g. the 0.7 Kickstart required to run the software used by Andy Warhol in the 1985 Launch of Amiga demo)*
  • Improved documentation and help (new Tip of The Day balloon, new documentation in Windows Help format)
  • Emphasis on usability: interface and settings are improved, but remain consistent with the previous 2008 version and with C64 Forever (also see Tips for Upgraders)
  • Tested to comply with "Compatible with Windows 7" requirements, with full support for Windows Vista and Windows 7, both x86 and x64 (possibly still the first and only Windows software with custom-shaped glass-enabled skin)

Additional new and improved features that were already included in part in Amiga Forever 2008*:

  • Content more than quadrupled (disk images are now compressed in the new RP2 format, and also used directly by the installer)
  • New "Amiga Forever Game Pack I" (more than 100 games)
  • More than 100 beautiful demoscene productions
  • New Gallery items: original Tripos article, "top secret" Amiga-Atari documents, and much more
  • New system HDFs: complete Amiga OS 1.3, 2.1 and 3.1 installations with only a minimum of add-ons (e.g. Y2K fixes, RTG update for 3.1), but otherwise identical to the original (including file attributes as intended by Commodore, which were lost in later distributions)
  • New ADFs (1.3 Extras, complete 3.1 install set, etc.)
  • New ROMs (Amiga 1000, A590 and A4091 boot ROMs, system-specific ROMs required for added compatibility, etc.)
  • Preinstalled WHDLoad "kickemu" support
  • New KX Light, bootable from CD and with HD installation option (now featuring live updates) and extended hardware support

Additional details about the player for Windows, which was also greatly improved in the new 2009 version:

  • Revolutionary new and intuitive player interface for Windows, for easy selection and playback of games and other content
  • Professional skin design with familiar "media player" interface
  • Buttons and other visual controls provide intuitive access to content and emulation features (pause, resume, disk change, reboot, joystick vs. keyboard selection, window size selection, full screen, Amiga screen capture, etc.)
  • The new Amiga Forever player makes it possible to double-click or drag-and-drop downloaded disk images (e.g. RP2, ADF, ADZ, IPF, etc.) to play them, using heuristic content analysis to preset a suitable Amiga hardware configuration
  • The player has built-in support for dual screens (can use secondary display for full-screen Amiga) and multiple emulation sessions
  • Rather than closing an emulation session, it is possible to save its state, for example to resume a game at a later time (the session is up and running again in an instant)
  • It is also possible to undo the changes from the last session and revert to a previous saved state
  • Full undo of RP2, ADF, ADZ, HDF and HDZ disk writes (disk changes may be committed or discarded when exiting the emulation)
  • Windowed mode visualizes games and demoscene productions as they were meant to be displayed, without large unused overscan areas
  • Helpful visualization of additional details (Amiga mouse options, device status with green/red read/write LEDs, context-specific help tips, Tip of the Day balloons, etc.)
  • Integrated video playback (requires MPEG-2 support by the operating system, otherwise the Amiga Forever videos can be read by any DVD player)

* Emulation software for Windows is ready to run (from medium or after installation, no additional downloads required). ROM and OS files can be used for emulation on other platforms (e.g. Mac OS, GNU/Linux, etc.), but may be unsupported and may require download and manual installation of additional free software. Due to hardware differences, Amiga floppy drives and some other peripherals cannot be connected to non-Amiga hardware, even if running an emulation.

** Automatic updates require internet connection and Software Director (included).

*** Additional downloads require internet connection. Download sites are listed on web site.

Additional ROM and System Content

Would you like to see the evolution of the Amiga Workbench from version 1.0 up to 3.X (in different styles, too), through all intermediate versions ever released? With Amiga Forever Plus Edition you can. The ROM and operating system files include all publicly-released versions (except for those that were only meant to run only in combination with a specific piece of hardware which is not required in the hardware emulation, such as the A2024 monitor).

The CDTV and CD³² ROMs can be used to play CDTV and CD³² games, even booting directly from a game CD.

Personal Paint Included

The Amiga Forever Plus Edition CD, which contains an Amiga Rock Ridge file system to carefully preserve the original Amiga file system attributes, also replaced the Personal Paint 7.1 CD as the official up-to-date reference medium for Personal Paint, inclusive of tutorials and full documentation. This data, intended for use on "real" Amiga computers, is contained in the "Amiga" directory at the root of the CD.

Includes Amiga Explorer PC connection software

The Amiga Explorer networking software allows any number of Windows systems to access the resources of an Amiga computer. The computers may be physically connected with a "null-modem" serial cable, a Bluetooth wireless link, or via TCP/IP (e.g. Ethernet cards, or over the internet).

Unique features of Amiga Explorer include:

  • Automatic installation of the Amiga side through serial cable (no additional software required). Before the release of Amiga Explorer this used to be considered an impossible task!
  • The Windows side can copy to and from the Amiga, and move, rename, delete, format and examine properties of Amiga files, directories and volumes through the familiar Windows Desktop and Explorer interfaces
  • Virtual floppy (ADF), hard disk (HDF) and ROM image files, very useful for archiving and emulation purposes, are created on the fly. ADF files can be both read from and written to Amiga floppy drives.
  • The Amiga side, including the self-installation part, works with all Amiga OS versions from 1.2, and is compatible with AmigaOS 4.0 and MorphOS
  • The Windows side works on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (some "competing" products are DOS-based and do not run on newer versions of Windows)

Original Forever features list:

  • Preinstalled Amiga OS 3.X environment (for productivity, internet access, etc.) and Amiga OS 1.3 environment (for compatibility with older software), running on top of a powerful JIT-enabled Amiga hardware emulation which also supports Amiga custom chips, RTG, AHI, SCSI, up to 512 MB of Zorro III RAM, virtual memory, MIDI, native x86 code, etc. More...
  • A multitude of carefully preinstalled quality Amiga applications, which include the AWeb browser (great for cross-browser testing), TCP/IP, Personal Paint 7.1c (paint, animation and image processing software, includes GIF/LZW license), special version of CacheCDFS CD file system, AmigaAMP media player, DirDiff (file synchronization and replication software), AmiToRTF (to convert texts from Amiga to Windows formats), MailBX (to convert Amiga mail archives to Microsoft Mail, Outlook Express and Exchange Server), drag-and-drop LhA, print spooler, Directory Opus 5.5 (courtesy of GPSoftware), TurboText (exclusive latest version with bug fixes), MUI (shareware version), KingCON, FreeWheel, PowerSnap, ToolManager, ReqTools, etc.
  • Compatibility with Amiga OS "3.5"+ icons, NewIcons and MagicWB icons
  • New and fully licensed Picasso96 software (not a shareware version), maps Amiga graphics requests directly to fast x86 calls and powerful low-level DirectX functions (Windows version of emulation)
  • Amiga Narrator and Translator speech synthesis components (made available for distribution with the Amiga OS for the first time since 1991, when Commodore-Amiga's licenses expired)
  • More than 10 "First Demos" are included in the 1.3 environment.
  • Latest versions of WinUAE and WinFellow tested and supported by Cloanto. Non-Windows versions included and/or available too.
